2021 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

We’ve been beating the drum for this incredible wine all year, and it’s great to see it finally get the recognition it deserves — ranked #7 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List!
Following the announcement, I was fortunate to secure another pallet of this beauty from our European supplier, and am thrilled to be able to hold our $39 price. I’ve seen offers from some of my competitors approaching $50.
This is a tremendous wine and been one of our best selling Italians two years running. It hits well above its price point. If you haven’t yet added it to your cellar, now’s the perfect time.
Sourced from nine of the Langhe’s most celebrated crus—Rabajà, Asili, Ovello, and more—it’s the definition of pedigree in a bottle. Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate called it “epic” and a “classic expression of Nebbiolo,” awarding 95+ points and naming it “a vintage for collectors.” That’s not hype! At under $40, there’s simply nothing in the category that competes.

The warming climate has been a gift to Barbaresco, delivering full maturity and a softer edge without losing the grape’s signature tension. Produttori’s traditional approach—18-21 days of fermentation, up to 3 years in old Slovenian oak—ensures the wine is transparent, focused, and layered with red fruit, florals, spice, and that unmistakable Nebbiolo backbone.
This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas.
- Wine Advocate, 95+
An intriguing wine with aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and candied orange zest. Smoky and juicy on the palate, with firm, dusty yet ripe tannins, a full body and a long, savory finish.
- James Suckling, 94
The 2021 Barbaresco is a gorgeous, deep wine. Although the aromatics are a bit closed, the 2021 shows gorgeous depth and a touch more palate presence than is typically the case for this bottling.
- Vinous Media, 93
A vibrant, well-defined red, offering rose, cherry, strawberry, white pepper and mineral flavors. Sleek and elegant, this firms up on the linear finish. Balanced and approachable now yet would benefit from a bit more time to knit together. Excellent length...#7 Top 100 Wine Spectator 94
