2021 Philippe Jouan Coteaux Bourguignons Cuvee Thomas
The wine I bring you today is from a small, old vine parcel located well below the main road. So much below that it bears the name Coteaux Bourguignons instead of straight Bourgogne. Don’t let the name fool you, this is a serious little wine.
The Jouan family is old school Morey St Denis, with an enviable range of wines from in and around Morey. It is most certainly a Burgundy lover’s wine.
Old vines give this one a brilliant garnet color with punchy aromas of black cherry, red plum and maybe even a touch of clove. It's by no means in your face as the cool, mid-weight flavors remind we of the Burgundy of yesteryear. I sure wish we had more vintages that made wines in this style, as this is a wine I never get tired of drinking. I’ve only got a few cases of this one, grab some while its here, you will be happy you did.
