Article: 2020 Latour Pauillac

Chateau Latour

2020 Latour Pauillac

I know we’re not the first place you look when you think about buying Bordeaux. It’s never really been our main focus. That said, every now and then I’m able to offer something genuinely compelling. And honestly, I’m thrilled to be able to offer anything from Château Latour.

I offered the 2020 Pauillac de Latour a few months ago to very strong demand. I was actually surprised by how quickly we sold through our entire allocation. Last week, one of my suppliers put out an extensive Bordeaux offer. Buried near the bottom was a listing for the 2020 Pauillac de Latour. After checking the price, I noticed it was exactly what I had paid a few months before and quickly secured everything that was available. Sadly, it amounted to just 36 bottles, but considering it was the same price and from the 2020 vintage, it was a no-brainer.

If you missed it the first time around and Bordeaux is something that you enjoy, I’d strongly suggest picking some up today. This is a terrific wine that delivers everything we love about Latour: dark fruit, real palate-staining intensity, with impressive balance and harmony. The 2020 vintage was a home run for most Bordeaux estates, and when you are one of the finest Bordeaux producers, everything you tend to make turns out to be very good.

The 2020 Pauillac is superb. The aromatics alone are compelling. Lavender, sage, menthol, black pepper and licorice all jump from the glass. This just screams with Cabernet character. Dark, vibrant and super-expressive, the 2020 is an absolute delight. Its vibrancy and delineation are both admirable. What a gorgeous, gorgeous wine this is.

The 2020 Château Latour Pauillac is clearly outstanding, possessing an undeniable hint of Latour-like class and style. Juicy red and black currants, smoked tobacco, graphite, and lead pencil nuances all shine here, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's a beautiful Pauillac that will keep for two decades.
