Notes:
Firm reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose. Otherwise here too the mouth feel is unusually sleek for a Mont de Milieu with solid volume and mid-palate density, all wrapped in a mineral-driven, powerful and tension-filled finish that goes on and on. This youthfully austere effort will require at least some patience and should reward up to a decade of keeping. Burghound 90-93 Sweet Spot Outstanding!
The 2017 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru comes from three parcels of 35, 60 and 80-year old vines in different parts of the vineyard that crop at just 25hl/ha. It has a classic Chablis bouquet with a potent sea influence, oyster shells and cockles, and a whiff of kelp. The palate is beautifully balanced with a crisp line of acidity, very harmonious and elegant, the 20% barrel maturation just lending a little more weight to the finish. Superb.
