Borgeot - Bourgogne Chardonnay
One of the great misconceptions in Burgundy is that you need a fancy appellation to have a great experience.
In reality, some of the most satisfying bottles I drink are simple Bourgogne Blanc. Not because they're better than Premier Crus, but because they often deliver everything I want from white Burgundy without forcing me to think about the price.
That's exactly why I keep coming back to Domaine Borgeot's 2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay.
Many of you know Borgeot from the Santenay offer I sent a few months ago, which promptly sold out. Since then, I've had more than a few calls asking if I could find additional bottles. Unfortunately, the importer is completely out.
The good news is that we still have some of their Bourgogne Chardonnay.
Over the past few weeks, I've opened several bottles at home, and each time I've come away with the same conclusion: this wine has no business being this good for $27.
The nose is bright and inviting, offering fresh citrus, green apple, and hints of white flowers. On the palate, it's crisp, energetic, and wonderfully refreshing, with the kind of mineral backbone and mouthwatering acidity you get from more pricier bottles.. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't. Instead, it delivers exactly what great everyday Burgundy should: balance, purity, and drinkability.
If you're looking for a bottle to keep cold in the refrigerator all summer long, this would be at the top of my list. Buy this with confidence, you can thank me later.
Limestone and marl soils across their Côte de Beaune parcels give this Bourgogne Chardonnay real structure and minerality, well beyond what you'd expect at this level.
Food pairing: A natural match for shellfish, roast chicken, or a simple goat cheese salad, this is a Bourgogne built for the table, not the cellar.
