Article: Antonin Guyon 2024

Antonin Guyon Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes Dessus" 2024

Antonin Guyon 2024

I simply can’t get enough of the 2024 White Burgundies. I’ve been recommending them to you since I first tasted them from barrel at the beginning of the year, and I knew then that this was a special vintage. Now that a number of the wines have arrived, with more on the way, I’m getting the chance to re-taste them, and that feeling has only been confirmed. 2024 is destined to be remembered as one of the truly classic vintages for White Burgundy. I can’t stress this enough: if mineral-driven wines of depth, purity and freshness are what you crave in White Burgundy, this is a vintage to stock your cellar with. It may be four or five years or even longer before we see another that matches the freshness and energy of these wines.

Today’s offer is another mind-bending example of the quality of this vintage: Antonin Guyon Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus 2024. The wine comes from a 0.69-hectare parcel in the upper section of Charmes, just below Perrières. It’s one of the original parcels Antonin Guyon acquired in the 1960s as he was putting the domaine together. Today the family farms 48 hectares across 25 appellations from Gevrey to Meursault.

The domaine is now run by Hombeline Guyon, the third generation to lead it after her father, Dominique, and her uncle, Michel. She helped lead Burgundy’s successful 2015 bid to have its climats listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, working alongside DRC’s Aubert de Villaine, and in June 2026 Decanter named her a “Winemaker to Watch.”

This is very much an insider’s wine. The old vines naturally play a role in producing fruit of great concentration and depth. The élevage lasts 15 months, with 30% new oak, and some lees stirring adds richness and texture. In a vintage like 2024, where the acidity is front and center, the result is a wine of beautiful depth and balance. I feel this is a 2024 that could be enjoyed a little earlier than some, but its backbone and structure will surely offer some beautiful aging possibilities. Buy this with confidence: this is stunning!

A strikingly pretty nose features notes of acacia blossom, just grated zest and the essence of pear. There is impressive density to the sleeker and finer medium-bodied flavors that also display focused power on the balanced, lightly austere, clean and very dry finale. This seductive effort is excellent and possesses enough mid-palate sap that it could be enjoyed both young or with up to a decade of keeping. Well-worth considering.
