Article: 2023 Henri Boillot

Henri Boillot

2023 Henri Boillot

I first offered these wines on pre-arrival back in February and sold everything I could get. Yesterday, while finalizing a shipment, my supplier casually said: “I still have 30 bottles of Clos Mouchere – want them at the same price?” That was an easy “Yes please!” So here’s the deal: same price, limited reload. If you missed these the first time, this is your second (and probably final) shot.

We received the first wave of Henri Boillot’s 2023 a couple of weeks ago and while I’ve done my best to keep my hands off the Clos Mouchere, I finally gave in and popped one the other day. I knew it was going to be good - I just didn’t realize how good. This is an amazing bottle of wine! This has all the characteristics you would find in a Grand Cru - mouthcoating richness and depth; incredible cut and focus to go with a finish that goes on for daaayyyss!

It should come as little surprise that Boillot’s Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère earned one of the top marks 95 points from Burghound and landed on the exclusive Don’t Miss List—right alongside the Grand Crus. It’s worth noting: only three Premier Crus made the list, the other two being Meursault Perrières from Lafon and Roulot. Pretty elite company!

If you missed these the first time around, I’d suggest grabbing some here - this is arguably one of the finest 1er cru produced this vintage.

2023 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Genevrieres

Aromas of exotic tea, tangerine peel, Granny Smith apple, anise and a plethora of floral wisps lead to super-sleek, intense and overtly mineral-driven flavors that terminate in a balanced, youthfully austere and strikingly long finale. This beautiful effort is pretty much textbook Genevrières and warmly recommended.

- Burghound, 94

This is even cooler and more restrained as the nose only grudgingly reveals its aromas of mineral reduction, green apple, spice, acacia blossom and a deft touch of wood. The gorgeously textured medium weight flavors brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that buffers the youthfully austere and even more persistent finish. This too is very classy and a classic Clos de la Mouchère of grace and poise. If you can find it, buy it.

- Burghound, 95 Don't Miss Outstanding!

A fuller yellow here, and an extra degree of completeness, more weight and almost all the class. The oak is still at 50% new and is very well integrated. Gorgeously rich, with little fruits dancing through a meadow. Once again, I do see the magic of this. Henri was strongly advised by his father to look after “Madame de la Mouchère”. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.

- Jasper Morris, 5* | 94-97

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère ler Cru is another very classy wine. Vertical in feel, the 2023 is super-bright from the outset. White pepper, flowers, mint, sage and pear reinforce that impression. Readers will find an airy, deceptively mid-weight Puligny that possesses remarkable depth.
