Article: 2022 William Fevre Chablis

2022 William Fevre Chablis
This is a wine I buy every year sight unseen - Domaine William Fevre Chablis. In top vintages like 2022, I’m buying this stuff at every opportunity. Pound for pound there are few wines that match its QPR. For years this has been a wine that had only been available in Europe, but apparently, now with the Rothchild’s ownership that changed and we’re starting to see it here in the US, although at higher prices.
The first load of it arrived in the Spring and quickly disappeared. No matter how much of this stuff I buy, velocity is sky-high. I can’t ever seem to keep it in stock.
The pale yellow / greenish hue reveals a citrus leaning nose that offers scents of white flower and sea shell. There is really no mistaking this for anything but Chablis. The salinity, the freshness, and the acidity really bring your mouth alive on a spine-tingling finish that is an absolute pleasure to drink. This is text book Chablis, and a village level wine that would give many a 1er cru a run for their money.
I popped a bottle as I sat down to write this and like I said above, there is no mistaking this for anything but Chablis. The citrus leaning nose gives way to white flower and seabreeze scents. There is better than average volume to the mid palate which leads to a saline, mineral driven finish. The bottle screams for a plate of Oysters which I think I will be enjoying this evening.
Long standing winemaker Didier Seguier has been firing on all cylinders the last several vintages, and 2022 was another huge success for William Fevre. We do have some limited availability on a range of 2022 and 2023 William Feve that are now in stock.
I’m sure you know…but I’ll say it again, 2022 Chablis is one to buy in quantity!
Aromas of sweet orchard fruit, white flowers and oyster shell introduce the 2022 Chablis Village, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and charming wine that's pure and saline. This cuvée benefits from a considerable proportion of old vines, planted in the 1950s and 1960s, and it's hand harvested in small cases.

There is reasonable Chablis typicity present on the aromas of mineral reduction, iodine and cool white fleshed fruit. There is also good volume and richness to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a refreshing, clean, dry and sleek finale. This is very good for its level plus it should reward a few years of keeping if desired.

($50) The 2022 Chablis Village, due for certification with the 2023 vintage, has a steely nose with touches of lime and apple blossom. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Quite classic and cool in style. A bit short, though, with sufficient salinity to keep the saliva flowing.
