2022 Domaine Du Vieux College Bourgogne Côte d' Or

The wait is finally over!

This is a wine to which I was introduced with the 2020 vintage. To this day, it still ranks as one of the best red wine values I have ever offered. The wine sold out in a matter of days.

Since then, I’ve asked the importer every time I see him, ”when is the new vintage coming?” Perhaps I was annoying? Yesterday he visited the warehouse and played a prank on me by slipping this wine into the lineup without telling me, as if I wouldn’t notice! You’ve got to get up pretty early in the morning ….

Obviously, I spotted it and immediately said “I’ll take everything you have” before even trying it! He told me not to worry as he drove up from LA so I could be the first to sample it. As soon as we popped the cork and poured the wine you could already begin to smell the flavors - red and black fruits dominate the inviting bouquet, which also reveal subtle hints of plum and spice. In the mouth, the wine immediately shows the weight of the ripe concentrated flavors that has made 2022 such a tremendous vintage. Tasting this one blind it would give a lot of 1er crus a run for their money. It's fantastic to drink now, but I’m telling you, if you can somehow keep your hands off it for another 6 months to a year this is going to round out even more and become absolutely sublime.

I’ve brought you some tremendous red Burgundy values over the years and this 2022 Vieux College Bourgogne is right up there with the very best. The importer would only sell me 20cs, which won’t be enough. Do yourself a favor and buy more than you think you need, you can thank me later!
