2021 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco
2021 is one of those vintages Nebbiolo lovers will be bragging about for years—and the Produttori del Barbaresco release is the kind of wine that makes you wonder why you’d drink anything else. We sold out of this on our last offer and were fortunate enough to get a reload.
Sourced from nine of the Langhe’s most celebrated crus—Rabajà, Asili, Ovello, and more—it’s the definition of pedigree in a bottle. Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate called it “epic” and a “classic expression of Nebbiolo,” awarding 95+ points and naming it “a vintage for collectors.” That’s not hype! At under $40, there’s simply nothing in the category that competes.
The warming climate has been a gift to Barbaresco, delivering full maturity and a softer edge without losing the grape’s signature tension. Produttori’s traditional approach—18-21 days of fermentation, up to 3 years in old Slovenian oak—ensures the wine is transparent, focused, and layered with red fruit, florals, spice, and that unmistakable Nebbiolo backbone.
Sure, it will age for a decade or more, but even now it’s dangerously appealing. Stock up—you’ll regret it if you don’t.
Please trust me, not all Barbaresco is created equal!
This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas.

An intriguing wine with aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and candied orange zest. Smoky and juicy on the palate, with firm, dusty yet ripe tannins, a full body and a long, savory finish.

The 2021 Barbaresco is a gorgeous, deep wine. Although the aromatics are a bit closed, the 2021 shows gorgeous depth and a touch more palate presence than is typically the case for this bottling.
