2021 DOMAINE BACHEY LEGROS CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET 1ER CRU MORGEOT LES PETITS CLOS VV/Domaine Bachey Legros

Discovering Domaine Bachey Legros ranks up there as one of my most exciting wine-discoveries of 2023. A client turned me onto their Chassagne Montrachet 1er Morgeot, which was crazy impressive! After trying a few of the other wines, I became so struck that I squeezed a visit to the domaine onto an already very busy calendar of domaines to visit while in France. I had to see firsthand what was happening here!

After you read a little more below, I urge you to explore these amazing wines. I’m so confident you’ll love them, I’m offering a money back guarantee on one them (find below)!

There are not many American journalists reviewing them yet, therefore the prices have remained in check. But DO NOT let that fool you, these are first rate in every way and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Samule Legros honored me with a tour. He, along with his brother, run this marvelous estate located in Santenay. They farm a total of 19 hectares spread across 3 communes (Santenay, Maranges and Chassagne Montchet) where they grow both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The prize of the Domaine is a 2 hectare lieu dits, “Les Petits Clos.” It is located in the upper middle section, labeled the more well known vineyard Morgeot, just below Les Grands Ruchottes, and La Romanee. Here there is the perfect balance of Calcare (limestone) which brings the freshness and minerality mixed with some clay and deeper soils that gives the wine richness and body. It’s this perfect soil combination, along with the old vines and low yields that delivers such an amazing White Burgundy experience

Overall, Morgeot covers just over 58 hectares (143 acres) across some 20 lieux-dits. As an umbrella title, producers can choose to label their wines either as the individual vineyard title itself or adopt the perhaps better-known "Morgeot" name.
