2020 Vieux Collège Marsannay Les Logneroies Rouge
Perhaps you remember the runaway hit we had in 2019 with a Bourgogne from Vieux College. I still have people asking for it!
So, every time I see the importer, I’ve been hounding him for the wine. He tells me that the 2020 Bourgogne is not available, but that he had something even better: Marsannay Les Longeroies. I responded, “we’ll see.”
Last week he came by with some tasting opportunities, including the Marsannay Les Longeroies. I confess, it's hard to argue with him. The wine is dense and ripe as I’d expect from a 2020. It has that rich, mouth coating sappiness you can only get from old vines. I didn’t say much, but listened while the importer told me how the vineyard is expected to be elevated to 1er cru. At this, I had to laugh to myself! They have been saying that since I’ve been visiting Marsannay the past 20 years. I told him the wine clearly has 1er quality to it regardless of whether official status ever happens.
We tasted a few more wines and then I circled back to Marsannay Les Longeroies. After tasting it again, I couldn’t deny its excellent quality. The beautiful finish on my palate just kept going and going!
I had no idea what the price points were, but while I was enjoying the waves of deliciousness, I was already thinking to myself I could sell it in the mid $50’s, NO BRAINER! When we finally got around to the price, I was bracing myself for more, but when he told me the price and I calculated it at $42 for my customers, I calmly looked up and said I’LL TAKE IT ALL!
But shoot…don’t get too excited. He only had 10 cases in stock. This is a serious wine from a tremendous vintage and one I could not recommend more highly. If you are looking for the real deal at a price point that is not going to break the bank, grab this today, you can thank me later!

The Vieux Collège estate is a family run vineyard for 7th generations. In 2006, Eric Guyard took over the reins of the business, upholding the traditions of his ancestors and bringing forth the quality and expression of terroir. The surface extends over 25 hectares through the villages of Marsannay, Fixin, and Gevrey Chambertin.
The vineyards are organic, ECOCERT certified, since 2014 but even before that, they were raised without the use of any pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Organic copper sulfate is only to combat mildew, and only as needed.
A high level of respect is given to the estate and to the wine as it is vinified and aged. Please take note of the Fixin 1er Les Hervelets - I don’t have a lot but for a few additional dollars, it’s another level of everything I’ve described above.
