2016 Pol Roger Brut Millesime
It is a great pleasure to offer the 2016 Brut Millesime . After a wonderful visit in January 2023, I came to admire the wines from Pol Roger even more than I had already, if that’s possible.
Their facility is absolutely first class. From their entry level white label, to their breathtaking Sir Winston bottling, the quality across the range is just flat out exceptional.
The Brut Millesime wine in particular takes “exceptional” to the next level. It is only produced in extraordinary years. It consists of the traditional house blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers crus vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. It’s aged 7 years on its lees prior to disgorgement.
Pol Roger is a Champagne house collectors sometimes overlook for reasons I don’t understand. Last month, a magnum of ‘85 Winston absolutely stunned my wine group with its precision and depth. Hard to believe but wines from Drouhin, Rousseau, Leroy, Mugnier were all battling for second place that evening.
Similarly, this 2016 Brut Millesime will not disappoint! It is a collectors wine and will age beautifully on the cork.

A very elegant and silky vintage Champagne with a seamless harmony of candied citrus fruit, sushi ginger and dried cherry character with racy acidity and delicate minerality at the long, straight and refined finish. You don’t even think about how much or little dosage this has. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Brut Vintage reveals a complex, gourmand bouquet with aromas of ripe orchard fruits, nectarine, pastry, nuts, sweet spices and ripe white fruits, signs of a warm vintage. Full-bodied, broad and vinous with a fleshy core of fruit, it’s rich and elegant with a penetrating, saline finish. It will drink at its peak in five to 10 years.

The current release of Pol Roger's NV Brut Réserve is quite dramatic, bursting with aromas of mandarin oil, honeycomb, elderflower, fresh bread and musky peach. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's generous and textural, with a rich core of fruit, lively acids and a pillowy mousse.
