2019 Mauro Molino Barolo
What a delightful surprise it was discovering this 2019 Mauro Barolo! The other day, a sales rep dropped by with a bag full of wine and I must have tasted about 10 wines that bored me to no end. I was getting ready to call the whole meeting a bust and sort of shrugged when he proposed a 2019 Barolo. To think…I almost didn’t taste this stunning wine! It reminds me that you have to kiss a lot of frogs!
It’s probably one of the lightest Barolos I’ve experienced in some time - my first impression was it had the color of a 1982! Bricked edges with a very translucent color. No mistaking its rustic, autumnal flavors that scream aged nebbiolo. “Classic Barolo” I may have said out loud after tasting it. It’s packed with flavor but so light on its feet! Just WOW!
Anyone looking for that classic, elegant, old school type Barolo take note. Monica Larlar’s review is dead on, this is a true stunner! I bought the remaining 62 bottles.
I should mention a kind of weird and cool thing that happened. I took the sample home and left it out overnight with the cork out of the bottle. The next morning instead of just pouring it, I took another sip out of curiosity. I think it may have been the best sip! Perfume, lift, it seemed to have blossomed from the night before. Gives me confidence this wine is only going to improve over the next 5 yrs.
Easily one of the most impressive Barolo I’ve tasted recently.
The Molino family shows a deft hand with Nebbiolo, as is illustrated by the 2019 Barolo. This wine shows great harmony, a lightweight style and a polished mouthfeel, with strong power too. The aromas follow a classic Nebbiolo playlist with small currants, blue flower and rusty nail. As far as classic Barolo goes, the 2019 is about as classic as they come. This wine is especially lifted and bright. With 45,000 bottles made, you get an outstanding value here.
