The 2012 Hugues Godmé Extra Brut Millésime was disgorged in January of 2022, after fully nine and a half years aging sur latte! The wine is composed from a blend of sixty percent chardonnay and forty percent pinot noir and was finished non-dosé. Forty percent of the vins clairs for this bottling are aged in older oak barrels. The wine offers up a beautifully refined and complex bouquet of apple, pear, chalky minerality, warm bread, just a hint of gentle oakiness and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and impeccably balanced, with excellent depth at the core, fine mineral drive and grip, utterly refined mousse and a long, complex and very classy finish. Though this has no dosage, the very extended time aging on its fine lees has allowed the acids to relax nicely and the wine is drinking quite well right now. It will age long and gracefully. 2023-2050+. John Gilman 94
