Allen Meadows' Burghound, May 2011 (Note: the vineyard is quite stony with very little top soil.) Here the nose is similar but more reserved and offers just a bit more overt minerality that also characterizes the firm, precise and pure flavors that possess so much extract that it confers a textured character to the vibrant and exceptionally persistent finish. This is a focused effort that exhibits controlled power and a lovely sense of underlying tension. Worth a look as this is quite good. 91-93 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding!
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2010 The 2009 Guettes was the last wine in the cellar to finish up its malolactic fermentation in the cellars, and was still a tad reduced at the time of my visit at the end of November. The nose shows of a lovely mélange of black cherries, plums, cocoa, smoke, stony soil tones and incipient notes of game. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and broad shouldered, with impressive elegance and purity, a fine core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, chewy finish. This will be very good and again, shows absolutely no signs of sur maturité. 91-92 points.
