2022 Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Les Vergers-Clos Saint Marc

Timid if elegant and strikingly layered aromas are comprised by notes of wet stone, petrol, spice and a beautiful array of floral elements. A gorgeous mouthfeel seems to be a hallmark of the Pillot wines in 2022 and the concentrated and powerful flavors of the Clos St. Marc definitely has that, indeed this is both classy and stylish while delivering superb length on the balanced finale. This tightly wound built-to-age effort is stunningly good and absolutely worth your interest.  Burghound 92-95

More green than yellow in the colour here, despite the sunshine. Just one barrel of 350litres in 2022 (one x 228 in ‘21 and one of each in ‘23). Absolutely no detail on the nose, except a promise of real intensity to follow. Massive intensity but perfectly shaped. Muscular yet athletic, like a rugby full back. All white fruit throughout. Definitely a vin de garde. Don’t waste it by opening too early. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.  Jasper Morris 94-96
