The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc (Domaine Gagey) is another success this year, bursting with aromas of fresh pear, green apple, crushed mint, buttery pastry and almonds. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's lively and precise, with chalky structure and a saline finish. William Kelley 91-93+
This is not in fact from a single clos as 80% is situated low on the slope, 20% right at the top of Grèves. The wood shows a little more here than for the Beaune Bressandes, and the colour is a slightly deeper yellow. Good acidity. A bit on the chunky side. I do not feel that Chardonnay brings out the best of the Grèves terroir. Jasper Morris 88 – 90
