The Château Simone Rosé presents a very strong argument against the notion that rosés are simple wines to be drunk up young. We have experienced 10-year-old Château Simone Rosé and remained awestruck by the vibrancy and complexity of this very serious wine. The blend is identical to the rouge: 45% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault, 20% Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan, Muscat Noir & Blanc. For Simone’s rosé, grapes are harvested by hand, de-stemmed, and gently pressed—50% is free-run juice—before a spontaneous fermentation in concrete eggs and oak foudres. Malolactic is naturally blocked due to the chill of their cellar. Aging occurs in the same vessels for a year before an unfined/unfiltered bottling. This is full-bodied, lush and powerful Rosé. Rich aromas of crushed cherry, wild strawberries, ripe red plum follow into the gorgeously textured palate laced with freshness and verve. This stunner is loaded with depth and concentration that puts it far beyond the realm of rosé and amongst the most age-worthy and complex – a monument in its category!
