Enter Jean-Marc Pillot with his mind-bending, Bourgogne Rouge “Les Grandes Terres”. You may have remembered this one from last year, although it did not stick around very long. Jean-Marc Pillot is the fourth generation of his branch of the Pillot family to tend vineyards in Chassagne Montrachet. We’ve come to expect exceptionally crafted, world class white burgundies from Pillot but a knockout, pop and pour gem with tons of Burgundian character? Jean-Marc crafts his Bourgogne Rouge from a remarkable 2.5 acre parcel planted to 65 year old Pinot Noir vines called “Les Grandes Terres” in the village of Remigny just south of Chassagne. This is first rate in every way - accessible, explosive aromas of juicy ripe cherries, pepper spice and rose perfume. Super silky up front then broad and plush through the mid-palate with a deeply concentrated finish. Authentic, pedigreed and sophisticated, this bottling is an absolutely spellbinding achievement and one to please lovers of red burgundy looking for something they can drink every day that is not going to break the bank! I've served this to several people already that have each left with a case. Red Burgundy at this price point does not get any better! Do yourself a favor and buy more of this than you think you need - it drinks well now and should hold easily for the next 3+ years. This is an exceptional example of Bourgogne Rouge - Not to Be Missed!
