Today’s wine, the 2019 Cheveau Macon-Fuissé “Les Grandes Bruyeres” is yet another winner from the highly anticipated 2019 vintage. Produced from 40-year-old vines in the village of Fuissé planted to limestone-clay soils, these vineyards produce a typically generous, rich wine from this village famed for its ideal setting that yields some of the finest wines of the Maconnais. In this instance, fermentation occurs in large neutral oak foudre, but left in contact with the fine lees for one year. Virtually the entire production of this wine is dedicated to the US market and we are so fortunate to have secured enough to satisfy all our customers we’ve introduced to this producer. The wine possesses an uncanny soil character derived from the high concentration of volcanic material in this part on the Maconnais close to the Beaujolais border. There is a profound tension in this wine matched with its rich tonality, wrapped in exotic fruit notes and subtle floral accents. The palate feels round but clean with defined flavor and an underlying core of minerality, beautifully framed and balanced with lively acidity. It’s virtually impossible to find this much Burgundian pedigree and purity unless you are spending two to three times the price. Grab your stash now and secure many days of drinking stellar, affordable white Burgundy. You will thank us later!
