Burghound (Allen Meadows) 91-94
“Generous wood influence stops just short of dominating the attractively spicy nose of poached plum, cassis, dark cherry and an array of floral elements. The silky and caressing medium-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive, and classy, texture before concluding in a sappy, balanced and youthfully austere finish. This is actually quite firmly structured yet the abundant sap masks the tannic spine for today though it will become more prominent once the baby fat begins to melt away. Note that this is a bit woody today but there is sufficient stuffing to eventually integrate it. (from a .28 ha parcel of 30+ year old vines in Calouère – the first vintage was 1979; vinified with 50% whole clusters).” (January, 2019)
Jasper Morris 93-96
“40 year old vinese situated in the Calouère sector. 50% new wood, 70% whole bunch. Dense black purple, the nose is rather hidden, fabulou sweet dark red fruit behind, while the structure owes much to the whole bunches. Tingling, dancing. Mostly dark fruit, some red notes, quite firm tannins behind. Very good indeed, to borrow a Clive Coates notation.” (December, 2018)
Vinous Media (Neal Martin) 90-92
“The 2017 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru matures in 50% new oak with 60% whole bunches from 45-year old vines that are Cordon pruned, although they are introducing some Guyot simple. It has a precocious bouquet with macerated dark cherries, blackcurrant and spicebox. The palate is dense and rather introverted. Afford this 5 to 7 years in bottle.” (January, 2019)
