Earthy, rich, dense and complex on both the nose and the palate with medium tannins, good supporting acidity and grand cru quality length. As is usually the case however with young Méo Clos de Vougeot, this comes across as a bit lighter than one might expect, given the pedigree and location of these vines yet this wine has also proven that if given sufficient time, it does indeed add weight and complexity. Thus, I would strongly counsel leaving this alone until at least 2006 and then drinking over the next 5 to 10 years. In short, this is a very solid if not sensational '98. Burghound 89
