Article: Domaine Andre Clouet

Domaine Andre Clouet

The Clouet family has been in the Champagne region for centuries, originally gaining local prominence long before making wine; their ancestors served as appointed printers to the French monarchy, and it was only after generations of vineyard accumulation that they began producing Champagne in the 18th century. Today the estate remains firmly in family hands, with Jean-François Clouet carrying forward a deep respect for history while guiding the domaine’s reputation for expressive, terroir-driven wines. Their vineyards, totaling about 9 hectares, sit on prime slopes in Bouzy and neighbouring Ambonnay. Both Grand Cru villages which are primarily planted to Pinot Noir, which is the driving force behind the estates distinctive style.

In the cellar, André Clouet combines traditional Champagne methods with thoughtful innovation. Harvesting is done by hand, and the base wines are generally fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel, with portions sometimes aged in neutral oak or used Sauternes barrels to add texture and complexity. The house honours long lees aging and careful blending across vintages for non-vintage cuvées.
