Expressive, deep nose offers scents of boysenberry, violet, wild spices and meat. Very concentrated and dense but weightless, conveying an attractive restrained sweetness and a slightly honeyed character to the flavors of dark berries, minerals and meat. Precise but not at all hard, with big but pliant tannins arriving late. Some Pinot Beurrot in this parcel gives the wine an added measure of gras, notes Frédéric Esmonin. There is both good volume and intensity to the even more mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before terminating in a dusty and long if not quite as well-balanced finale due to a touch of dryness that I ascribe to the recent bottling. It has a potent nose that immediately and somewhat curiously reminds me of Indian spices - “Balti” to be exact (not a trait I have come across often.) The palate is medium-bodied with dense red and black fruit. It is very harmonious with fine structure, although the Mazis-Chambertin expresses more complexity and nuance.
