Stylish nose hints at black fruits and licorice. Very intensely flavored if less showy today than the Champans. This has excellent stuffing but is currently quite closed, and dominated by its strong backbone. Lively, sharply delineated red fruit flavors are complicated by complex herbs. Very pure wine, finishing with terrific grip and sneaky length. 91-94 points\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1999 Volnay Taillepieds: (from 35 year old vines). Almost black in color with sappy sweet dark pinot fruit,excellent density and fabulously long flavors of real distinction. The length here is superb as is the complexity. Impressive juice!
