The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Vernays is once again a highlight chez Verget. Delivering aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, white flowers, fresh bread, nutmeg and iodine, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, with a charming core of fruit, lively acids and a chalky finish. Julien Desplans began Maison Verget's harvest on August 21, wrapping up on September 5, picking parcel by parcel, sometimes in multiple passages, in pursuit of optimal maturity. Concentrated and precise, this vintage has turned out brilliantly, and I'd rank it alongside 2017 as Verget's finest vintage in recent years.
