2018 Jean Marc Pillot Montagny 1er Cru “Les Gouresses”

If you have forgotten the story, Jean Marc's close family friend owns a small 1er cru vineyard in Montagny, the Southern most town of the Cote Chalonnaise. Why would a guy of Jean Marc's pedigree be looking to make a wine from Montagny? Well when you come across a 1er cru vineyard, well situated on rocky soil, with un-grafted vines dating back to the early 19th century, why wouldn't you. Four barrels are produced each year.

As a wine merchant, I'm most excited to find that hidden gem that hits well above its price point, and this Montagny 1er does just that. The citrus leaning nose gives way to a mouth coating mid palate, remarkable minerality with persistence and acidity that leave you craving another sip. This is first rate in every way!
