Allen Meadows' Burghound, May 2011 (Note: two-thirds of the vines are between 70 and 80 years of age and the remaining vines are approximately 20+ years old.) This is perhaps the ripest wine in the range with a liqueur-like nose of black cherry, earth and underbrush hints that introduce rich, serious and concentrated flavors that possess an abundance of mid-palate extract as it almost completely buffers the otherwise very firm tannic spine, all wrapped in a palate staining finish. This stunning effort should reward at least a dozen years in the cellar and drink well for another decade thereafter. 92-94 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding!
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, January/February 2011 Bright medium-deep red. Black cherry, licorice, menthol and mint, with a floral topnote. Silky on entry, then powerful and impressively intense in the middle, with terrific lift to its palate-saturating dark fruit and licorice flavors. Less plump than the Gravains but more complex. Finishes with a medicinal reserve and lovely lingering perfume. A great Savigny wine with Cote de Nuits-like nuance. 91-94 points.
