2009 Droin Chablis Mont De Milieu

In contrast to the discreet exoticism of the Fourchaume, this is openly exotic with mango, apricot and stewed peach aromas that lead to rich, powerful and sappy medium plus weight flavors that coat the palate with extract on the concentrated, intense and impressively long finish. Producer note: Benoit Droin noted that 2009 "did not produce classic wines in the same fashion as 2007 or 2008 but they are rich, delicious, fresh and reasonably well balanced. They will be ideal for restaurants and for consumers who lack perfect storage conditions as they, as a very general rule, will not make for old bones anyway. They make me think of the '06s, which are already drinking well and the '09s will probably age along the same lines." As to the now in-bottle '08s, they have largely confirmed what I saw last year from samples. In particular I call your attention to the Mont de Milieu and the Montée de Tonnerre as they offer stunning quality for the price. Droin told me that he had just sulfured the wines one week before my visit and this had had the effect of "sharpening" the finishes. Note further that the wood regimen (when there is one, not all wines see some) varies for each wine.
