A discreet hint of wood sets off an equally expressive and also very fresh nose of animale infused red and dark berry fruit aromas. The rich, mouth coating and intense middle weight flavors are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that confers a velvety palate impression on the mildly rustic and persistent finish. Solid quality here. from La Charmotte and Au Chouillet, both at the south end of the Vosne sector Bertrand Chevillon called the 2009 a vintage that created "very powerful, ripe and concentrated wines. We picked from the 11th to the 17th of September under perfect harvest conditions. Sugars ranged from 12.5 to 13.5% and we chaptalized nothing. Yields were generous yet by no means excessive and the wines possess plenty of dry extract so there is no sense of dilution. The vinification was straightforward and the malos were normal so it was one of those rare vintages where there was no stress from start to finish. As to the wines, 2009 reminds me of 2005 or 1999." The Chevillon wines have a long history of offering some of the best value wines in all of the Côte d'Or and deservedly so. Readers should know however that the 2009 vintage produced, in several cases, the best examples that I have ever seen from cask chez Chevillon, which is saying something given how many great wines I have reviewed at this address. Also, Bertrand Chevillon asked me to point out to readers that the domaine has a new website though when I visited the site, it appeared to still be under development.
