In the same mold, the 2012 Cornas Les Chailles (aged 18 months in neutral oak) is a perfumed, beautifully fresh Cornas that oozes class with its cassis, black raspberry, spring flowers, charcoal and wild-herb-driven bouquet. While it doesn’t have the weight of the other two cuvees, it is seamless, medium to full-bodied, and elegant, with no trace of rusticity or coarseness. Enjoy it over the coming 10-15 years. Wine Advocate 93-96 Brilliant ruby. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of dried cherry, violet and spicecake, with a subtle mineral overtone and a hint of black tea. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering lively dark berry flavors and a deeper note of bitter chocolate. A touch of black pepper adds lift and bite to the long, spicy, youthfully tannic finish Steve Tanzer 91-93
